Fogelsville, 2001 Meeting Minutes

Original release: January 2002

Another club meeting in Fogelsville, another night of great glasses, food, and fun. Represented were 15 memberships with a total of 18 people. This was the lightest attended meeting here but, with everything going on in the world so close to home, the turn out was great. I expect that the Spring show will bring our best attendance ever. Quick Draw McGraw is on our new shirt. Does this mean that the glass is not far behind? Food was provided by myself, April Kuhns, Debbie Morrison (Dales wife), and Jimmy Driver. Yes, I said Jimmy Driver. Besides his other talents he treated us to his homemade bean soup.

Glasses for sale and trade were set up by myself, Brent Sehnert, Fred Stepanian, and Terry Scanlin. As always many great glasses were changing hands. Show and tell brought the following:
Brent had some great short Disney mugs featuring the main characters. These were fairly new from Disney. Larry Freudenthal brought his Canadian version of the 1929 Popeye glass. The most notable difference is the color band around the bottom of the glass. Since Dale Morrison couldn't be here I brought his Cuban Disney pitcher and glasses that were featured in Collector Glass News ad the Gatherer. The glasses had the name Materva on them. Doug Wright brought similar (but different) glasses with the same name listed on them. He also had a Disney "block print" glass from the 50's missing the block print. It looked like the block print was applied but not properly so that it came off with first washing. Fred had a sample Mark McGuire glass that has some minor color differences from the production McDonalds glass. Paul Merolle had a Star Wars glass with a second picture on it that is different from the original Burger King set. This is part of a 4 glass set and possibly because of the Coke logos a 8 glass set. Kenny Gingras brought a short Brockway Daffy that is missing the black. Carl Sehnert brought a Soft drink glass from Mexico with the name LULU on it but with the character Betty Boop on it.

Since there is no December show in Grays Lake we were the second group to vote the annual meeting to be in Indy. This also means that the election of officers will be moved to that meeting as well. Steve Zehr and Brent Sehnert will continue in there roles as Secretary and Vice President until that election at June meeting. This was also approved at the meeting. The club secretary (myself) and club vice president should have ended out term in December but now we were extended to June. All of this requires a change in the ByLaws. Tom Mugnano is looking for volunteers for a nomination committee to fill these positions after June.

Paul Merolle offered his help and expertise to help Steve Simek and Brenda Potts to set up a club website. Some of the concerns include finding affordable, dependable server space to host the Website. It may be that the cost of the space will help determine the content. Carl brought up that there are may free newsletters that offer free advertising that we should look into to help promote the club. I would encourage all members to pick up one at you local antique shop and find out what it would take to advertise our club.

The next club meeting will be in Florida and should be listed in this news letter. Promoting our club should be everyone's business. If you know anyone that might be interested get their name and address and we will send them a copy of our newsletter so they know what we are about.
